Meet the Principal

Welcome to West Elementary School, home of the West Wildcats.
My name is Mike Howard and I have been serving as principal for our students and staff since 2006. Let me tell you a little about West. West Elementary School serves approximately 240 students in grades K-5. All of our students participate in music, art, and physical education, and receive social skills teaching in Guidance.
We offer many outstanding opportunities for our students including:
- 1 to 1 Chromebook technology for all students.
- Team basketball is available for 5th grade boys and girls.
- School clubs include: student council, garden club, and chess club.
- A free breakfast program to all our students.
- A quarter mile paved walking path for student and community use.
- A school garden with educational lessons provided by the UW-Extension Master Gardeners.
- A book vending machine where students purchase books with GRIT coins.

Student school hours for West Elementary are from 8:05 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. for all grades.

History

West Elementary was built in 1969. In 1999, there was an addition constructed that consisted of art and music classrooms and a new gymnasium. In 2024 there were updates to the building that included updating restrooms, electrical systems and plumbing along with upgrading to energy efficient lighting.
